Why did balletwear still feel so synthetic?
Balletwear should move with the dancer. Yet trapped heat, clingy fabrics and stiff layers have become familiar compromises. We believed the material should support movement—not distract from it.
Cotton: soft, but not built for repeated movement
Cotton feels soft and breathable, but it can hold moisture and lose shape over time.
For dancewear, comfort also needs reliable stretch and recovery.
Spandex: stretch without breathability
Spandex gives dancewear stretch and recovery. Used too heavily, it can feel warm and overly synthetic against the skin.
Nylon: durable, but not always comfortable
Nylon is smooth and hard-wearing, but fully synthetic fabrics can feel warm or clingy during long periods of movement.
Bamboo: soft, but often lacking support
Bamboo can feel smooth and light, but it may not provide the recovery and structure needed for repeated movement.
The answer was not one perfect fibre.
It was learning how to balance softness, breathability, stretch and recovery—then choosing each material for the job it needed to do.

How we made it work
Natural fibres felt right. Making them perform for dance was the challenge.
We worked with textile specialists with more than 40 years of experience to balance softness, breathability and reliable performance in motion.
That work introduced us to Giovanni Vitale, the third generation of the historic Italian Vitale textile family. He understood both the material challenge and what we were trying to create for dancers.
Together, FLA Balletique™ was born.
12 additional finishing processes
We sampled, wore, washed, tested and redesigned. Again and again. Twelve additional finishing processes later, FLA Balletique™ was ready to move with dancers.
Two material systems. One purpose.
FLA Balletique™ is our natural-fibre material platform for warm-up wear, using wool and silk for softness, warmth and breathability.
LaceFlex™ is our leotard material system, combining stretch lace, recycled mesh and Lycra for softness, airflow, stretch and shape recovery.
